An Introduction To Editing Video Podcasts In Final Cut Pro

More and more podcasts are moving towards a video first approach and that means more podcast editors are being asked to edit video. For many of us, video editing is an entirely new field. When I was starting out I found there were very few tutorials showing a workflow for editing podcasts in Final Cut Pro. I spent hours looking for the right videos and never did find them.

I had to piece together information from various sources to build a workflow. I have further improved the process I describe in this video. I’m not sure if I will create a new video or an affordable course, but I want to help podcast editors who want to use Final Cut Pro to edit their videos.

In this 45 minute tutorial, I walk you through the basics to get you up and running quickly in Final Cut Pro. You’ll learn about:

  • The interface
  • How to set up a new project
  • How to import media
  • How to create a multicam clip
  • How to manage disc space
  • How to edit
  • 3 ways to mask cuts
  • Why video can’t be edited as tightly as audio
  • How to export an episode
  • How to work with the audio
